
Jessica Michelle Chastain (born March 24 1977) is an American producer and actress. She is most well-known for her part in films that have female-centric themes. She has won a variety of awards including an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine named her one the 100 most influential individuals worldwide in 2012. Chastain was an avid actor at an early age. She made her acting debut as Shakespeare's Juliet in 1998. After studying acting at the Juilliard School, she was signed to a talent holding contract with the TV producer John Wells. She was regular guest on a variety of television shows and was also a part of many stage productions. After her debut in film at the age of 31 in the drama Jolene (2008), Chastain had her breakthrough in 2011 with six film projects which included the dramatics Take Shelter (2011) and The Tree of Life (2011). She was awarded Academy Award nominations for playing an uninitiated socialite in period drama The Help (2011) and as a CIA analyst in the suspense thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012). More commercial success was seen in the science-fiction films Interstellar (2014) and The Martian (2015), and the horror movie It Chapter Two (2019). Chastain was acknowledged for her performance as a strong-willed woman such as in the dramas Most Violent Years (2014), Miss Sloane (2016) and Molly's Game (2017). She was also a part of the television miniseries Scenes from a Marriage (1921). She went on to portray Tammy Faye Bakker in the biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) and won the Academy Award for Best Actress as well as Tammy Wynette in the miniseries George & Tammy (2022). Chastain founded Freckle Films to promote diversity in film production. She is also an investor in Angel City FC. She has a strong voice on mental issues and gender and racial equality. Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo (fashion executive) is her husband.
